Sejarah Hari Buruh Nasional di Indonesia
Di Indonesia, peringatan Hari Buruh dimulai pada 1 Mei 1918 setelah Adolf Baars, seorang tokoh kolonial, mengkritik harga sewa tanah untuk buruh.
Mereka menuntut upah yang layak karena banyak yang mendapat bayaran tidak sesuai.
Setelah kemerdekaan, Hari Buruh tetap diperingati, dan pada 1 Mei 1946, Kabinet Sjahrir menetapkannya sebagai hari peringatan resmi. Melalui UU No. 12/1948, tanggal 1 Mei dijadikan hari libur bagi buruh.
Selanjutnya, pada 1 Mei 2013, Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono secara resmi menetapkan Hari Buruh sebagai Hari Libur Nasional.
